On September 6th, 2008 Microsoft announced that cyberManor was the winner of their national Windows Media Center integration installation - awarded annually to the finest and most creative installation utilizing the Windows Media Center platform in a residential system. The details of this project are described below.

When Micheal Kreaden approached cyberManor in the summer of 2007 to provide a whole home technology solution for the Eichler home he was remodeling in Northern California (designed by D. Guy Ayers, architect and Bernard Trainor, landscape architect), he had the following three specific system design criteria he wanted our company to meet:

  • The need for one consistent graphical user interface for the control of all the electronic systems in his home, specifically audio/video, lighting, security, heating/cooling, and cameras. This user interface had to be locally accessible from wall mounted touch-screens, onscreen TV displays, desktop computers, and ultra-mobile touch-screen portable platforms. The user interface also had to be accessible outside the home over a secure remote access connection.
  • A centralized large hard drive for the storage of all the family's recorded high definition TV content, music and photos that could easily be retrieved and controlled from all the TV locations in the home. Television, music, and photo content that could be accessed by any family member at anytime in any room without interfering with the viewing experience of anyone else in any other room of the home.
  • A guarantee of system fault-tolerance. If, for any reason, there was an issue with the operation of the central media center control system in the home the whole house audio, lighting, security, and HVAC systems had to function independently.

Over the course of the following twelve months, cyberManor's design and integration teams successfully delivered the results that Mike and his family needed for his new home with an integrated solution that embraced Microsoft's Media Center platform for media management and Exceptional Innovation's Lifeware software for home automation and control.
